Looking for Cookies

This morning I noticed there were only a few of my favorite tea biscuits (cookies) left in the packet.  Unfortunately, with the pandemic and the supply chain problems, I’ve had to resort to purchasing them through Amazon even though they are almost twice as expensive.  I asked myself whether I should buy another brand (which I have tried but don’t particularly like) or maybe I should start rationing them?

Rich Tea biscuits are my favorite, but my husband and son prefer the Digestives.

While McVite’s Digestives were always available, I was disappointed when I couldn’t find the McVite’s Rich Tea biscuits.  But today was my lucky day!  In fact, the very first market I decided to visit finally had them in stock and were only $1 more than usual!  I was so happy!

My favorite biscuits are back!

It is so wonderful to see the British food section almost fully stocked!

Because I have a subscription for Smith Tea, I have not had any problems obtaining my favorite tea.   However, my very good friend drinks Earl Grey and I’m still not able to find the brand I usually buy.  Therefore, she brought me a box of her favorite tea, which I remember trying when I was in Canada.

But because of the caffeine, I limit my English Breakfast tea to the mornings and then with dessert when I’m at a restaurant or with friends.  The rest of the day I drink hot barley tea because it’s caffeine free and doesn’t have a fruity or floral taste.  It is especially satisfying when the weather is cold. While I’ve tried a few different brands of barley tea from a local Korean grocery store, I discovered one at a Japanese market that has become my favorite.  I think it’s more subtle and less bitter.  Because the teabags are bigger, to be used in making larger quantities of tea, I reuse it throughout the day in my favorite mug. Amazon carries it so I can order it from there when it’s not available in the shops.

Of course, I could purchase less expensive and more available cookies. In fact, I could bake my own treats which would be more economical. But I feel if I can afford it and something so small as a packet of biscuits can put a smile on my face and bring me some joy, then why not? Tea and biscuits - the perfect combination!
