Afternoon Tea with Family

My sister-in-law asked me if I would want to go to afternoon tea during our holiday to Southern California.  Of course, I would never turn down the opportunity to try a new tea room! I was excited. This would be the first time having afternoon tea with her and other family who live in the area. While there are a number of places that serve afternoon tea, we decided on The Tea House on Los Rios.

The Tea House on Los Rios is located on the historic Los Rios Street in San Juan Capistrano in Orange County.   I wish I had time to look around the many little shops and cafes found along the tree-lined street.

The menu is posted for visitors walking down the street.

There are lots of little nooks on the tea room property for Instagram-worthy photos.

The beautiful entrance is the perfect spot for a photo.

The first course was a heart-shaped scone with sultanas.  I ate half of it and took the other half home for my father-in-law who loves scones with raisins.

I ordered the Victorian Tea that came with soup and salad.  While it looks a little messy in this photo, the garden vegetable soup was served hot and quite good.  My sister-in-law ordered the cream of mushroom soup which most of our group ordered.  The serving size was perfect, too.

The finger sandwiches were egg mayo, traditional cucumber, turkey and chicken salad.  There was also a mushroom and caramelized onion pinwheel and salmon mousse on a cucumber slice.  The fresh fruit was served with a side of brown sugar and cream.

The chocolate and lemon desserts were small, but satisfying after all that food.

My daughter and I walked through the tea room’s gift shop that was located next door.

I bought these super cute teacup earrings at the gift shop.  I thought they were a perfect representation of my new venture to come.

Beautiful faces!  Another wonderful memory.
