For my mother

Mom and Me

This weekend is Mother’s Day. Although my mom passed away almost 18 years ago, my gift to her is this blog. I hope her inspiration will come out in the words and images I share with you. She and I both loved to shop, read, travel and bake. And not surprisingly, we enjoyed having tea together. We were a team when it came to entertaining. She’d start the cooking and baking while I would set the table and get the house ready for guests. When she came out to visit me, I took her to the local tea room where I would see the excitement in her eyes because there wasn’t anything like it where she lived. When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, she and my sister organized an afternoon tea-themed baby shower for my friends and family. When she was really sick, I encouraged her to sit outside on the deck for our daily tea and biscuits.

I hold up my tea cup to you, Mom. This is for you. I will imagine you enjoying a cup with me as I continue my journey in this world. Thank you for bringing me to the United States and giving me a second chance at life. I owe you and Dad everything.
